(The fluff is nice, but it's 75% of the content in the starship section.) I liked the extra ship stats, those are very welcome (and well done) - although honestly, I think there should have been more ship stats in the main book. I haven't absorbed everything from it yet, so I don't have an opinion on the fleet combat rules, for example. My problem with official stats for well known characters is that later supplements might provide options better suited to the character, but then it's "too late." Granted, there's nothing to keep me from treating them as generic NPCs. Sarek and Lwaxana Troi are great, but if I really needed them in my game, I could stat them myself, or paste them atop a more generic NPC and make a few tweaks. I could have done without the specific NPCs. Now I have a way to reward the.less disruptive players at the table, which is nice. My group wasn't using reputation before the book came out. Some rules to make Federation Fighters seem like anything other than suicide ships would be nice.Īs has already been mentioned, the Commendations and Awards chapter is pretty great. Not sure that we needed individual stats for a bunch of shuttlecraft, but it's neat to have. Especially seeing as that's how they're organised in the Core Book already. I was surprised the Prometheus class wasn't included, though.Īlso, I get why they had the spaceframes organised by the date they entered service, but alphabetical just makes so much more sense. Still, getting stats for the Nebula and Centaur - my personal favourites - is pretty great. Especially some of the more obscure ones which were overlooked. I would have liked for there to have been art for all the new Starship options. I really liked the Mission Pod stats for the Nebula, I would have liked to see more stats for the other types of Mission Pods and to have them set up for other ships such as the Luna Class. The Captain's Yacht was meant for diplomacy, the Aeroshuttle for Reconnaissance and defense and the Waverider was a versatile shuttle with a miniature lab, sleeping facilities and a biobed.
The issue I have is that each of those shuttles are unique. I was disappointed by the Captain's Yacht in that they made it generic to also cover the Intrepid's Aeroshuttle and while not mentioned as an example the Nova's Waverider. I think it fleshes out Starfleet life a little more.
What do those who have gotten a chance to read the PDF think of the book? What did you like, dislike, some disappointments. I just started a discussion of the Beta Quadrant Sourcebook, and I wanted to also start a discussion of the Command Division Supplement.
